The Playlist of Just Us When We’re Together - Josh Cheon: Private DJ SET @ Dark Entries

I sometimes like to deeply torture myself by remembering that bygone hipster era of SF when were all young, skinny, hung out at Dolores Park, WAY too much, (we were all somehow deeply unemployed) but there was always that vibe in the air of “who new could I meet?” In this small provincial bubble who indeed was “new”?

But remember miracles happen every day and I remember the specific day it happened to me. I was sunbathing at the gay beach and saw this tall(ish), dark, handsome, bearded fucking CUTIE and mustered up the strength to shyly ask him “hey, wanna fuck?” He giggled. He later recanted a story of seeing me dance naked in Gravy Train!!!! at some show in New York and it making him realize “wait, I’m a faggot”. I then learned he was a DJ and I spent a good chunk of a decade dancing at parties he threw every weekend. In the years since I have (proudly) done absolutely nothing with my life, while Josh went on to form the SEMINAL SF indie-tronic re-issue label “Dark Entries”. He is also the custodian of the Patrick Cowley archives (for reference, Cowley is a composer who is credited as a pioneer of electronic dance music, working heavily with SF disco legend Sylvester).

Some almost 20 years after our initial meeting, we still love to keep the magic of us alive. I got a call last Wednesday to a private DJ set by Josh Cheon at his store “Dark Entries” and was surprised when he said “private” he meant like “private private” – he had pulled the curtains down on the store and it was just me and him there. OMG- this was all just for me- MY HEART WAS BLUSHING.

The last time I had visited the store was for a very failed DJ lesson (I was trying to make the transition from washed up garage rocker to chubby middle-aged gay dude house dj—but learned quickly why it was best to stay in my lane, but I digress…)

Josh, in his love for me and infinite wisdom of my taste, concocted for me a post-punk/no wave/early rap set that simply left me feeling like I could probably just hang up my career as an artist and be a good wife for him. But, now that I think about that, naw, HO IS LIFE… but here’s the track list…
