Hampton Boyer: Wielding Instinct @ Romer Young Gallery

Romer Young Gallery is pleased to present "Wielding Instinct", its first solo exhibition with Virginia based artist Hampton Boyer. Inspired by African folklore, literature, and his own life experiences, Boyer's paintings are bright, vibrant compositions of flat color and collage. With a curious, intuitive and expressive approach, the paintings are a means of 'capturing the raw emotion the artist feels daily' while simultaneously exploring the evolution of self as an artist.

The back gallery will features a series of pigment soaked abstractions on canvas by St. Louis artist Vaughn Terrell Davis Jr. Davis considers painting in an expanded form, creating work that occupies a teasingly ambiguous realm where painting leaves off, sculpture begins, and performance interlineates. Cut, torn, frayed, ripped, shredded, and sliced, his surface treatments of flat, unprimed, pigmented canvases expand upon the tenets of Abstract Expressionism.

Gallery director Joey Piziali will be giving a walkthrough of the exhibition on Wednesday evening, September 30th, from 6 pm - 8 pm.
