Please join us for an intimate conversation between artist GaHee Park and curator Dorothy Dávila as the artist reflects on the influences that shape her practice, considering themes of desire and resistance in her work. How can we uncover new ways of understanding the world through the lens of fantasy and pleasure? What role does the imaginary play in the revelation of identity?

About the Exhibition

GaHee Park: Behind the Curtain presents recent paintings that explore fantasy, sexuality, and mortality through ambiguous depictions of private moments.

Quiet portraits of domestic solitude merge with uncanny still lifes and gentle seaside landscapes, as Park inverts inner psychology and the outer world. Insects, snails, and sardines linger, while contemplative women peer into cocktail glasses—who is imagining who?

Subverting the viewer’s gaze while also troubling the traditional notion of subject, Park invites us to peek behind the curtain, as she lays claim to her own power as a surrealist painter. Curated by Dorothy Dávila, GaHee Park: Behind the Curtain is the artist’s inaugural solo institutional exhibition in the U.S.
