Join Aleesa Pitchamarn Alexander, Robert M. and Ruth L. Halperin Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art and Co-Director of the Asian American Art Initiative, on this special highlights tour of Shahzia Sikander: Collective Behavior.
Shahzia Sikander: Collective Behavior is a career-spanning exhibition showcasing the work of internationally acclaimed artist Shahzia Sikander. For over thirty years, Shahzia has reinterpreted South Asian visual traditions through a contemporary feminist lens, working across diverse media from miniature painting to digital animation. The exhibition traces key themes in her practice such as diaspora, colonial legacies, gender, and body politics, highlighting her role as a global artist challenging dominant historical narratives. Organized in connection with the Cantor’s Asian American Art Initiative, this marks the most significant solo presentation of an Asian American artist within the initiative and includes a richly illustrated catalogue with scholarly and poetic contributions.
