Roger Herman: Ceramic Vessels & Mountains @ Corner Shop Gallery
The Sausalito Center For The Arts is proud to feature works by Roger Herman in the Corner Shop gallery.
The exhibition includes Herman's figurative and abstract ceramic vessels and large scale wood cuts. Herman uses his ceramic vessels as his canvas. Having been a painter all his life Herman moved from the two dimensional plane to a three dimensional object.
Roger Herman was born in Saarbruecken, Germany, and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. He earned his MFA from the Akademie der Künste in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1976, before relocating to California in 1977. He was a beloved professor of painting and drawing in the Department of Art at UCLA 1984-2018.
Herman's exhibit is on view concurrently with Open Inquiry: UC Arts, an exhibition of works by a new generation of artists from the renowned art practice programs at the University of California, Los Angeles, where Herman taught, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, Davis. The art departments at these universities have long been recognized as seminal hubs of artistic experimentation and critical thought, consistently incubating artists who leverage academic investigation with artistic rigor.
