Moving San Francisco: Views from the SFMTA Photo Archive 1903 - Now @ SFAC

Tour starts at 5pm in the North Light Court at City Hall.  Late arrivals should proceed to the ground floor to join the group in the gallery hallway.

Screening starts at 6pm at the Main Branch Library, 100 Larkin Street (at Grove).

Join the SFMTA Photo Archive at 5pm in City Hall for an in-depth tour of the exhibit, "Moving San Francisco: Views from the SFMTA Photo Archive 1903-Now." During this informal tour, we will learn more about the people and stories behind selected photos from San Francisco transit history from 1903 to 2025.

Following the tour will be a screening at 6pm in the Main Library. Funny, scary, or just wonderfully wacky, San Francisco’s iconic cable cars play a variety of roles in this program of carefully curated clips from films including "Yours, Mine, and Ours," "The Rock," "Doctor Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine," and "What’s Up, Doc?" Presented by the San Francisco Public Library and Jim Van Buskirk.

About the Exhibition

The SFMTA Photo Archive and San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) are proud to present Moving San Francisco: Views from the SFMTA Photo Archive 1903 - Now, an exhibition that celebrates the history of Muni and the evolution of our city’s transportation system.

Moving San Francisco will be on display on the Ground Floor and North Light Court at City Hall through November 25, 2026. The exhibition features photographs taken between 1903 and 2025 and focuses on the City's iconic public transportation system. Through this lens, it tells the story of San Francisco and the people who live and work here.
