Horse Grl - Opening Night @ Wave

Join the opening night party for HORSEGRL, an exhibition of 35 artists exploring the expansive theme of horsegrl through painting, textiles, photography, sculpture and video.

In honor of the year of the horse, we present HORSEGRL, an exhibition of real horses, horse girl-dom and the rich fantastical world of horses in our popular imagination. With many millennia of close domestication with humans, there are rich and varied symbolism of horses in mythology, folklore and pop cultures - the mythical Greek winged horse Pegasus, Celtic water horses, the heartaching tale of Black Beauty, the enduring My Little Pony from the 80’s to today, and the narcissistic Bojack Horseman. Drawing from internet aesthetics, and the archetypal relationship between grl and horse, HORSEGRL examines themes of freedom, desire, and the body. The exhibition considers how this relationship—often romanticized or ridiculed—represents a deeper longing for connection, autonomy, and wildness.
