Gestures of Willful Abandon @ Gray Loft Gallery

Gray Loft Gallery is delighted to present Gestures of Willful Abandon, an exhibit that brings together seven Bay Area women artists whose practices explore the space between intention and instinct, control and surrender. Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking and installation, the artists embrace chance, movement, accumulation, and transformation as essential parts of the creative process.

Their works emerge from close attention to the natural world, the shifting layers of lived experience, and the subtle movements of mind and body. Through gesture, color, pattern, transparency, texture, and form, each artist allows the act of making to become a record of presence — of thoughts arising and passing, materials evolving, and images transforming.

Together, the works invite us into spaces of ambiguity and possibility, where meaning is not predetermined but discovered through looking. Here, surrender becomes a creative act, and uncertainty opens the way for something unexpected to emerge.

Featuring
Ruth Boerefyn, Beth Fein, Judith Foosaner, Katie Hawkinson, Pam Jue, Emily Lazarre, and Carol Lefkowitz

Presented by Gray Loft Gallery, and curated by Jan Watten, this woman-owned alternative art space in Oakland’s Jingletown Art’s District neighborhood, Gestures of Willful Abandon continues the gallery’s commitment to creating exhibitions that bring together compelling contemporary artists and encourage open-ended conversations about art.
