Erik Bender: Zombie Birdhouse @ Right Window ATA
Organized by Conrad Guevara
This exhibition centers on Erik’s recent lightbox works. Born out of experiments on transparent sheets of corroplast, these works further the artists focus on transparency, layering and chance interactions between surface and pigment.
The new corrugated lightbox work have a seductive, translucent surface that recall green houses and terrariums. This is especially serendipitous with the artist’s signature imagery of alien-like orchid species and intricate spiderwebs shimmering against dark backgrounds. Here Erik is tending the environment for mysterious, potentially
venomous characters to thrive, a process that comes with a dedication to light, temperature and atmosphere and allows shadowy things to reveal themselves.
