Earthling is an ever-evolving series of experimental listening events for nature and sound lovers in the Bay Area.
Greetings Earthlings,
On Saturday September 26th, we’ll be gathering again at Elk Glen Meadow in Golden Gate Park to sit on blankets and listen to a wonderful lineup of ambient / electronic / experimental / label-free musicians performing on a beautiful sound system.
We channel a bring-your-own-blanket, outdoor-listening-bar vibe with respect to the deep experimental roots of the Bay Area. Earthling is a free + donation supported event.

Uhlmann Johnson Wilkes (LA)
Together as Uhlmann Johnson Wilkes, the Los Angeles trio of guitarist Gregory Uhlmann (SML, Perfume Genius), saxophonist Josh Johnson (SML, Jeff Parker ETA IVtet & New Breed, Meshell Ndegeocello), and bassist Sam Wilkes (Sam Gendel, Louis Cole, Chaka Khan) explore a spacious lyrical curiosity that could be described as a jazz-informed take on progressive electro-acoustic chamber music. It's redolent of the form-smashing ingenuity they've exhibited in past projects — from Music For Saxofone and Bass Guitar, Wilkes' beloved collaboration with Sam Gendel released by Leaving Records in 2018, to last 2025’s Small Medium Large, the critically-acclaimed debut from Uhlmann and Johnson's group SML — that have become era-defining documents of Los Angeles's thriving new jazz scene.
The Space Lady (Outer Space)
The Space Lady began her street music odyssey on the streets of Boston in 1980, continuing to busk in San Francisco throughout the ’80s and ‘90s. She became an instant icon for wearing her singular blinking winged helmet, while playing unique versions of contemporary pop songs on a retro/futuristic sounding Casio keyboard fed into a phase shifter, matched with her ethereal, echoing vocals. The Space Lady creates an otherworldly sound that has captured the imaginations of Outsider Music fans, amassing a large cult following around the world.
Dream Crease (LA)
Dream Crease is the solo project of Marina Aguerre, a Los Angeles producer and multi-instrumentalist known for her work with Teal Pop, Spaceface, and Dumbo Gets Mad. Drawing from otherworldly visions, recurring dream landscapes, and the natural world at her fingertips, Aguerre brings us a new realm of fantasy ambient on her second full length album, with an impressive roster of featured artists.
Using vocals, synths, and samples from her own backyard, Blue Hour in the Living Room seeks to capture the fleeting stretch of time between day and night known as blue hour: The transient and ethereal hour between sunset and night that intrigues all living beings, the quiet and stillness after the commotion of daytime, before the world of darkness emerges, where two worlds exist in one plane, separate only in time.
W.A.L.A representing SMARTBOMB (Oakland)
W.A.L.A also known as Asonic Garcia is a multidisciplinary artist, producer and curator from Vallejo, now living in Oakland,CA. He is the co-founder and creative director of SMARTBOMB, which started in 2013 as an experimental live music & art monthly party in Oakland and has since evolved into a conceptual curatorial project & platform showcasing the next waves of underground and independent artistry in the bay area.
Through music composition, analog video + film photography, and DJ sets, WALA's personal practice taps into the nature of creative emergence, the spirit that compels us to further evolve. W.A.L.A is an acronym for "Within All Life Around" , an intention set to understand and honor our inner state in connection to the outer world. The word "wala" in the Philippine language Tagalog holds many uses but simply translates to "nothing" or "absent of", a balanced reminder of the unknown & unexplained voids of inner and outer nothingness. A constant sonic exploration in the dichotomy of positive and negative space, a beautiful journey to find peace in balance.
