Charlie Callahan: Self Help 4 Toddlers @ Small Works

Charlie will discuss environmentalism, spiritual art making and starfish. Charlie's work has centered around humanity's role in the systematic collapse of the environment, specifically the ocean and aims to give hope for a spiritual transformation that will bring us into harmony with the world we live in.

About the Exhibition

Under the name, Batrayz, Charlie Callahan reaches beyond emotional discomfort and prescribed deities to the adaptation of animism as a solution to the entropy of capitalism.
In Self Help 4 Toddlers Charlie shares a collection of images, sculptures, and painting as a means of respite from the anxiety brought on by these overwhelming issues: mass extinction, societal collapse and the search for self-purpose. Conjured by the environment that he creates with these works is his vision for a possible afterlife. SEELIFE.

Charlie is well know in the Bay Area for his varied renderings of urchin skeletons, including one that is permanently installed at Outerland's restaurant in the Outer Sunset. He's been a fixture of the Bolinas art and culture scene for decades and is the founding member of the improvisational  band Fantasy Bracelet
