Jewel Box, an exhibit by artist Annie Duncan Charm Bracelet, featuring a large-scale ceramic wall installation. The month-long exhibition centers around a single work: Charm Bracelet, a large-scale ceramic wall installation composed of 16 charms. Using both symbols and text, the piece weaves a narrative that reflects the highest and lows of coming of age, and of life as an artist.
Traditionally, a charm bracelet is a way to collect tokens that commemorate where you’ve been and what you’ve experienced. The sculpture plays with that idea, focusing instead on the less glamorous, more challenging moments of the journey. Charms include a “burnout” lighter, a “redos” eraser, a trophy for a “minor achievement,” and a “meltdown jar” with a coin slot in the top.
Charm Bracelet strikes a balance of humor, sincerity, and playfulness. Up close, it reveals unexpected details that shift expectations of an object that may initially feel familiar. Its exaggerated scale reflects how certain moments can often feel larger than life.
