CK Contemporary is proud to present "Reveries", a retrospective solo exhibition of celebrated American printmaker, Robert Kipniss, opening December 6, 2025 and on view through January 10.
"Robert Kipniss: Reveries" showcases a remarkable selection of the acclaimed artist’s mezzotints, color lithographs, and paintings, offering a glimpse into his poetic visual universe. After a nearly 75 year career, his works continue to inspire viewers with their quiet strength and meditative beauty, reminding us of the profound significance found in simple, overlooked moments. As we explore his art, we are invited to partake in the reveries he so skilfully creates—moments of tranquillity, reflection, and timeless wonder. At 94 years old, Robert Kipniss is considered to be one of the greatest living American printmakers, with a significant body of work that can be found in over 170 museums including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The British Museum, London; the Albertina, Vienna; The Bibliothéque Nationale de France, Paris; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, among many others.
Born in Brooklyn in 1931, Kipniss studied English literature, art and art history at the Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio and the University of Iowa. While Kipniss has painted in oil throughout his life, he focused on stone lithography during his early career and has predominantly worked in mezzotint printmaking since the early 1990s, where he has left an indelible mark as one of the medium’s most respected practitioners. Kipniss has gained global recognition for work that is distinctly American; from expansive landscapes and pastoral views to dreamy still lives and quiet interior scenes. His paintings, lithographs and mezzotints are not only technically striking but also evoke a sense of familiarity and nostalgia in viewers.
