Heather Patterson | FLOAT @ Andrea Schwartz Gallery
Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce the third solo exhibition with Heather Patterson.
“Focusing on mapping the natural landscape, my work is a documentation of the perpetually changing elements within our topography and the delicate balance between natural systems and human impact.” – Heather Patterson
Spending time in nature forms the foundation of Heather Patterson’s practice. Fascinated by shifting climates and natural systems, she maps landscapes through layered, abstract compositions that reveal recurring environmental patterns, from weather systems and animal migrations to topography and water movement.
Using paint, ink, pigment, and acrylics, Patterson builds textured surfaces where geometric and organic forms intersect. Some layers are poured, allowing chance to shape the work, while others are carefully structured, forming deliberate, mapped responses across the surface. The resulting paintings suggest imagined terrains that oscillate between the microscopic and monumental, meditating on resilience, transformation, and the intricate systems sustaining the natural world.
