conversation on the legacy of Max Ernst and his partnership with Leonora Carrington @ Transamerica Redwood Park

  • Transamerica Redwood Park 600 Montgomery Street San Francisco, CA, 94111 United States (map)

Gallery Wendi Norris and SHVO host a conversation exploring the works of Max Ernst and his partnership with Leonora Carrington.

Celebrating Max Ernst at Transamerica Pyramid Center, a rare display of twelve bronze sculptures by the visionary Surrealist artist in the heart of downtown San Francisco, Gallery Wendi Norris and SHVO are hosting a conversation with the artist's grandson, Eric Ernst, and Claudia Schmuckli, Chief Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, moderated by Wendi Norris, with opening remarks by Michael Shvo.

Originally conceived in 1938-39 for the rural home in the south of France Ernst shared with his partner, the celebrated artist Leonora Carrington, these works blur the distinction between art and environment, function and fantasy, domestic space and dreamscape.

The conversation will take place amidst Ernst's suite of sculptures in the outdoors Transamerica Redwood Park.
