Art Wall / Marcel Pardo Ariza: Las frutas del labor @ BAMPFA
For the next installment of BAMPFA's annual Art Wall series, Marcel Pardo Ariza (b. 1991, Bogotá, Colombia; lives and works in Oakland) presents a site-specific installation that pays homage to the often-overlooked yet essential part that art handlers play in museums and collection care, celebrating their vital contributions to cultural institutions. The Art Wall commission will highlight Ariza's work as cofounder, with Ambrose Trataris, of Art Handlxrs*, an organization and publication that supports marginalized communities within the art handling profession. Continuing Ariza's tradition of creating large-scale photographic collages, this work will draw on the tools and materials of the art handling trade and the hands of the skilled art professionals that wield them.
